At Uawittaya, designed by DWP, The flat roof made from thin translucent material. The sun was behind the building. The ring of light happened automatically through that material. Actually the light was very soft down there, not too contrasty like in the photo.
(Pic#2) The light that come through the translucent material reflect back up to the lower surface of itself. That make the thin roof layer more separated and float above the building box underneath.
(Pic#3) In the evening, interior lights also reflect up on the surface of that roof too. I should take a better shot to show this effect. I don’t know these are the intended-to-design things or not but I think this is the great use of material I percept.
