These are 5 states of light in the evening I very get used to when I took all architectural shots. I would like to make some conclusion, here it is; State I : Last ray of sunlight The sunlight for exterior shot is normally great after 3 pm. At 4.30 pm, sunlight is a lot warmer and it usually ends at around 5.30 pm. The photo shot in this period has clear shadow from sunlight. State II : The cool […]
Six Senses Hideaway, Samui, was designed by architects from Department Of Architecture. These are photos of the restaurant called Dining On The Rock. People can enjoy dining on the roof or inside the semi-outdoor space with a nearby light installation inspired by the southern shadow play.

More photos of the Banyan Golf Club, designed by OBA. There are lots of walls in this place. I like the material that form a pattern on it. The slightly curve on each tile makes it look dramatically different at night when the light come from below. Banyan Golf Club by OBA Banyan Golf Club by OBA Banyan Golf Club by OBA
At Uawittaya, designed by DWP, The flat roof made from thin translucent material. The sun was behind the building. The ring of light happened automatically through that material. Actually the light was very soft down there, not too contrasty like in the photo. (Pic#2) The light that come through the translucent material reflect back up to the lower surface of itself. That make the thin roof layer more separated and float above the building box underneath. (Pic#3) In the evening, interior […]
I took these shots from late afternoon to early evening to captured the sunset. I intended to have the sun reflect on the facade. Each moment give different mood and tone.
This is the Tang Chao Club, the VIP club in Xi-an, where I shot the interior design for my client. The interior lighting is not a flush light as usual. It’s a dot and lining light. The wall around is all glass and reflective material. Using flash or additional light would ruin all the atmosphere. So I just click and wait, 30 minutes per shots at f32.
The important thing for me when I take architectural shot is capturing the real experiences real people percept. Things that sometime designer doesn’t intend to make it. Things that happen, sometime only happen just a second.
